Executive Vice President, Clinical Therapist, Peer Recovery Coach

Ryan Vargas, LMSW, CADC, C-DBT, CCAR

Biography

I have been working as a helping professional since 2008, the same year I started working for MVA Behavioral Health Services. I’ve been around the business since its inception as my father, Roy Vargas, was a founding partner of MVA. I have worked in most levels of substance use disorder treatment including, Detoxification, Residential, Intensive Outpatient, Outpatient, and Transitional Housing. I earned my Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in Social Work from Eastern Michigan University. I am also a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the State of Michigan, certified as a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy practitioner, and have been trained as a Peer Recovery Coach through Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR).

As a manager I help to oversee the overall business functions of MVA Behavioral Health Services. I assist the Executive Director with policy, treatment philosophy and treatment delivery, and personnel management. I also help to lead new business projects. As a clinician I conduct group therapy at both the residential and outpatient levels of care. I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, recovery principles, and self-help philosophies (AA/NA, SMART Recovery, Recovery Dharma). My goal as a therapist is to meet my clients where they are at, assist them in their recovery journey, and to help them be their best selves. As a person in recovery, I live by the adage “We keep what we have by giving it away.” This is why I’ve dedicated my life to helping people who are still struggling.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with family, reading, music, games, watching sports, listening to podcasts, traveling, bird watching, and being outdoors.
